    The department of Mathematics began to function in 1964, the very year the college was found. Since the college statred as a junior college, the department of mathematics started with two Pre-degree first group batches having Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as optional subjects. The department of Mathematics emerged as a separate degree department in 1982. Prof N Bhargavan, retired Professor and head of the department of Mathematics, S.N. College for women, Kollam was the first Head of the Department. The pioneers of the department also include Prof. J Sujatha, Prof. V. Sasidharan, Prof. R. Raveedran, Prof. P. Vijayamma, Prof. P.P.Nirmala Devi and Prof. K Sarojini.

    The department offers B.Sc degree programme in Mathematics since 1982. From the very beginning, statistics, one of the subsidary subjects, was taught by the faculty members. In 2008 the department of statistics came into existence and since then statistics is being handled by the the department of statistics.

    In the year 2010, a student of this department Kasinath. K bagged the third rank in the B.Sc Mathematics Examination. He scored 99.3% marks in total with 100% in Mathematics main and Statistics Subsidary.

Our Guru

Sree Narayana Guru, one of the greatest revolutionary social reformers Kerala has ever produced, was born on August 20, 1856, in a humble cottage in Chempazhanthy, a village near Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, as the son of Madan Asan and Kutty Amma. Madan Asan was a farmer as well as a teacher, with proficiency in Sanskrit, Astrology and Ayurveda, and his son, the little Nanu grew up listening to his narrations of the stories from the Ramayana and Mahabharatha to the local residents of the village.

Our Founder

T. K. Madhavan (1885-1930) was an Indian social reformer, journalist and revolutionary who was involved with the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP). He came from Kerala and led the struggle against untouchability which was known as Vaikom Satyagraha.
